August Newsletter 2020

Dear All,

The Fun Fly event at the start of the month was well supported with over 20 people attending. There were separate events for planes (spot landing / limbo) and multi rotor and Paul Taylor did an excellent job in running the event with a team of helpers.

Flying conditions were rather tricky in a cross wind with numerous ‘arrivals’ and although it wasn’t a competition, Perry was the winner-well according to Perry he was!! Besides this event Merlin Field has experienced some fairly heavy and continuous use over the last month with flying most days with the exception of the very hot spell.

We can all get a bit complacent with regard to battery maintenance but with an increasing tendency to fly electric please make regular checks of your battery cells and also be wary/do not use packs that are ‘puffy’. You should also ensure that your model has a working failsafe and your CAA identifier is on the plane. The Committee do not want to introduce ‘draconian’ checks but we are aware that with COVID a significant minority of members have hardly flown at Merlin Field and that to many it is still a comparatively new flying site. If you do need any help or clarification please ask.

All the best,

John Lewis
